Il Brief
GRANDI VINI-PICCOLA CUCINA

In the listed premises of a former stamp shop, Berlin's natural wine scene meets Italian gastronomy. Since 2014, Briefmarken Weine has contributed to the unique history of Karl-Marx-Allee.

With over 200 “grandi vini” (great wines), our curated wine list offers something for every palate: from rare Italian orange wines to biodynamic Champagnes. Each wine comes from independent producers and has been tasted and discussed at length by us. Alongside these “grandi vini,” we also serve “piccola cucina” (small plates), featuring a seasonal menu created with regional products and dishes imported directly from Italy.

We are a place for people to come together, where good wine and good food take center stage.

From stamps to wine

In the heart of East Berlin, on one of its most famous thoroughfares, Karl-Marx-Allee, you'll find "Briefmarken Weine" (Stamp Wines). This street, a symbol of the monumental architecture of the former GDR, was designed in the 1950s as a showcase of socialism – with imposing, elegant buildings intended to embody a very specific vision of urban life.

Before this space was transformed into a wine bar, it housed a stamp shop, after which the wine bar is now named. Traces of this history can still be seen in the original sign and the interior design, both of which have been preserved as characteristic elements and reminders of the place's past.

Today, many of the buildings on Karl-Marx-Allee are listed as historical monuments. This means that their historical and architectural value is preserved and protected, thus maintaining the unique character of this Berlin district.
