2. Lombardia

Lombardy is a region with an exceptionally diverse winemaking tradition, where mountains, lakes, and plains create very different terroirs. In Franciacorta, mineral-rich moraine soils predominate, ideal for sparkling wines of great precision and freshness. The climate, moderated by the lakes, favors slow and balanced ripening, while the Alpine regions produce more structured and vertically nuanced wines. Alongside the more traditional winemaking, a vibrant natural wine scene has developed in recent years, comprised of small producers and artisanal methods. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir find some of their most elegant expressions in Italy here. It is a region that combines rigor, energy, and a strong territorial identity.
