20. Sicilia

Sicily is one of Italy's most dynamic wine regions, characterized by an extraordinary diversity of landscapes and terroirs. From the sunny coastal areas to the heights of Mount Etna, the vineyards benefit from intense sunshine, consistent winds, and significant temperature variations. The volcanic soils of Etna impart mineral tension and depth to the wines, while Mediterranean and saline notes predominate in the western areas. Indigenous grape varieties such as Carricante, Frappato, Nero d'Avola, and Grillo are vinified using traditional methods and spontaneous fermentation. In recent years, Sicily has become a benchmark for Italian natural wine. The island's wines combine energy, substance, and a strong territorial identity.
