8. Liguria

Liguria is a region nestled between the sea and the mountains, where viticulture takes place on steep terraces overlooking the Mediterranean. Often cultivated under challenging conditions, the vineyards benefit from a constant sea breeze and intense sunshine. The soils vary between limestone, clay, and sandstone, contributing to saline, crisp, and highly distinctive wines. Vermentino, Pigato, and Rossese embody the most authentic spirit of the region. In recent years, many small winemakers have revived traditional cultivation methods and minimally invasive processing techniques. Ligurian wines are characterized by their freshness, spice, and exceptional drinkability.
